installing games!!
Hi All,
I'm having a bit of a prob with my pc. Ive downloaded a game called mystery case files from shockwave.com. I purchased the game! but i cannot instal it. it is saved on my desktop, i click it to instal, the wise instalation wizard pops up but automatically pops back down and thats it. it's p***ing me off now i've been trying for ages. have had a look thru my pc but cannot find any reason for this to be happening. i was able to download and instal b4. I have loads of games from shockwave already and never had any probs. This is a newish pc i bought in june of last yr, it has its own graphics cards installed and was working perfectly but lately it seems to be slow and crashing, I wondered if i had a conflict? I cannot find the scan on here so you will know about my system so i could not post this sorry. please somebody help.

First off you have an on-board graphics chip Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family
Whereas this is a decent chip your board supports PCI_E cards which are state of the art in case you feel like upgrading
That being said this should not affect the types of games you are talking about. Your computer can definitely handle these games.
With your "slow and crashing" along with the DOS error I would suspect something else is happening here.
Check your Event Viewer for errors:
Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.
You might also run a HijackThis log by our Pros in the HijackThis section:
Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
(Not in this section please).

Did you have this particular game on this particular computer before?
I've done a brief review of your errors. Many that point to applications you need to ID the application. It is probably pointed out in the Details section of the error line.
A few of the errors are indicating problems with Windows Installer & Windows Updates & Microsoft .NET Framework. This could be the possible issue.
Have you downloaded all XP Critical Updates from Windows Updates? Do you have Automatic Updates ON?
Do you know if you have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1? (Look in Add/Remove Programs for your version).
If you do not have it, version 1.1, it should be under Windows Updates Custom Menu.
Also download & run this tool & see if your game & or Microsoft .NET Framework are listed.

yes jephree i have downloaded this game and played it for free but it was not from shockwave. I did purchase it from shockwave as it couldnt be purchased from the website i first downloaded it, I removed that copy via add/remove progs. then downloaded but the problem then arose for installing it.
I have downloaded all available updates.
yes i have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 installed .
whats DOS mode mean? and how come i could play it b4 and not now. do u think i have a virus?
