Exclamation Sims 2 crashes, black screen

I've had the Sims 2 for a long time and it worked perfectly. Then I realized that little white dots were appearing and dissapearing on the screen. Now when I play, it starts out fine, then the white dots come and go, then my computer just crashes. I've read a lot on updating video cards and tried it out, but im not sure if I did it right or if I should delete the old video cards when I download new ones, etc. My computer is only about two years old and usually works perfectly. Can anyone please tell me exactly what to do to make it work?
There are 3 (i) in the EA Help file, where I suppose there is a problem:
    -Display Device RADEON 9800 SERIES
    -Display Driver 6.14.10.6587
    -Sound Driver 5.12.01.0383-1.80.0030
    Thanks in advance.

You need to uninstall old graphics drivers before installing new. Also any related software programs such as ATI Catalyst.

Start in safe mode & delete your drivers & reinstall.

    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

Follow the path to XP Radeon drivers. Read the instructions & also use this utility:

The Catalyst Uninstaller is an optional download. We recommend using this utility to uninstall any previously installed Catalyst drivers prior to installation.
