    My problem:
When running any software and older 2d/3d games there are no issues but when playing newer games (Rome,CoD2,Battle for Middle-Earth and Star Wars Battlefront to be precise), the computer reboots after only a minute or two after I load a game. This has only happened after I installed the Galaxy zeus geforce fx 5200 card. All latest drivers have been installed and I'm going nuts! Any help would go a long way!

What card did you have previously? Did these games run on that card? Did you uninstall the old card drivers before installing the new?

Also change this setting in order to get error messages:
rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

Merry Christmas Jephree and thanks for replying.

I was using onboard graphics chip and these games worked but not very well if you know what I mean: there was certainly no restarts just poor framerates and low-res graphics! All old drivers were uninstalled before the new card was installed. Before I re-installed XP I got a BSOD with an error code which mentioned turning of memory caching or shadowing or something along those lines. Now I don't even get a BSOD it just instantly reboots. Incidentally I have automatic restarts disabled but it still does it.
I'm not particularly worried about getting the 5200 working as I may buy a 6600GT but if its the mobo which has a problem then cash must be used for that first! I don't reckon its a heat problem as the fan is spinning no problem. It's only literally seconds or minutes after a level has loaded that it restarts itself. I'm not too sure what the advanced settings in the BIOS are (I had a look in there for memory caching but couldn't find it) but as I said it seems games that are maybe 1-2yrs old seem fine, only newer ones.

Anyway thanks again and all the best for new year!!

The fact that it by-passes the no auto-restart setting is indicative of a hardware failure rather than an XP issue.

You mention reinstalling XP: Did you reinstall the card drivers after reinstalling XP?

This looks like a decent card: Galaxy FX 5200 (on the left menu).

There is a driver there also under Support.

You could try a BIOS upgrade: K8S-MX Release BIOS 1015

    Motherboard | Socket 754 | K8S-MX

Otherwise I don't see any reason to suspect issues with your motherboard.

I have installed the latest Nvidia drivers and the latest galaxy drivers after my XP re-install - still same problem. Mobo BIOS is the latest version too. Incidentally I've just had my first non-game restart with Google Earth (pretty amazing btw!). I don't know if it is directx or what. Anyway, do you reckong it might be the card itself going dud on me? It is getting on a bit.
    Cheers

I have Google Earth as well. It is amazing & very graphic intensive as well.

What version of DirectX do you have? the latest 9.0c can be downloaded here:

Have you cleaned the fan on the card? Perhaps reseat it for "why not".

I already have DirectX 9.0c and the fan is spotless (already meticulously cleaned!). I was unsure if there was a compatibility issue with the mobo and graphics card. The manual mentioned problems with versions of ATI 9500/9700pro cards. If it's not a compatibility issue, then I guess its a new card for me!

Just to let you know, I've bought a new 6600gt and also a new case fan yo keep cool. So far so good, I guess it was just overheating due to poor fan performance or such like. Thanks anyway!

Thanks for the update! Glad it's working!
