Blank after intro. The final cut.

    Hi all.

I'm new at games and today at the car boot sale picked up an old 2002 game called "The final cut". A Alfred Hitch**** game.

    My PC satisfies all requirements.

    THE PROBLEM:-
When I start the game it goes through the intro, (with no problem), and then all I get is a blank screen.

I have tried pressing all keys and mouse buttons.

Does anyone have any idea of what I can do to play the game?

If you require further information, please don't hestitate to ask.

    ATB Gary.

At the blank screen do you have to power off the computer from the switch?

What is your Operating System? If XP try the Program Compatibility Wizard via Start/All Programs/Accessories

Also check Start/Run/ dxdiag | Display

Also check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc for any "!"

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.

    Hi jephree.

O.S. XP pro, ver 2002, service pack 2.
    Pentium III 797MHz, 384 RAM.

    Quote:-
"At the blank screen do you have to power off the computer from the switch?"

    Ans:-
No, the computer hasn't crashed. I can press the window button on the keyboard to get back to the desk top. From their I can use the PC as normal.
I still have a button at the bottom of the screen with "Final cut" writen on it, I supose because the game is still open/running.

Program compatibility didn't make any difference.

    dxdiag was OK.

    Ididn't see any "!".

In event viewer> system> event properties
    Sauce- cdrom
    Event ID- 7
Description: The device\device\cdrom0, has a bad block

I hope this is what you require. Thanks for your help.

I know this is a bit of a cheek, but, if I load a game onto my "D" drive, (secondry hard disk), how can I access (play) the game from the "start> all programs" list on the "C" drive?

    ATB Gary.

PS. To get rid of the button at the bottom of the screen next to the start button I have to press CON+ALT+DEL to end task.
Sorry I forgot this bit. Just in case it means anything.

    Thanks, Gary.

As a first response to that CD-ROM error 7 points to either a faulty (perhaps dirty) CD or drive lens.

Have you tried this CD on another computer? Have you had any other CD-ROM issues?

    ..............................

All Programs from the Start Menu is not drive specific.

Also you can always find the program using Windows Explorer or just right click D: under My Computer & then Explore & then click the .exe of the program.

    Hi jephree

I'm sorry for the late reply.

I'm not in the position to try other PC's at the moment. Up to now, as far as i am aware, there has been no other problems with the CD-ROM. I can still play other games. I take it that there is a problem with the CD itself.

Thanks for the "D" drive info.

    ATB Gary.
