General gaming problem.
Hey everyone. I just upgraded my pc, the specs are as follows:
amd 64-bt 3200+
1 gig corsair XMS ram
radeon X800 pci-e
400 watt power supply
200 gig HD
anyways, i format and i have a fresh copy of windows on my pc. i load up steam and im playing cs source. all my video drivers are up to date and everything. the screen goes blank and returns me to my desktop with no error msg. i rejoin a server. now, my computer restarts and i get a windows error message after i boot. it says that windows has recovered from a critical error. i have never seen this before. i have SP1. any ideas at all why my comp reboots when playing games? this also happened on D2, and rome total war.
i thought it might be a power problem or cooling problem, but im not sure.
Thanks alot,
Vance

Does the computer work ok otherwise?
Are you sure that your main board supports PCI-Express?
Have you checked under start/run/ dxdiag | Display ?
If you want details re: the critical error try this:
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your latest .dmp file.
Then:
1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your latest .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

Also for the future please change your dump log setting via:
Right click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery | Settings:
Write debugging information: change to Complete memory dump.
Try your game again to force a crash & new dump.

You can also get some sensors with this program:
