    Max Payne 2 mouse jitters

    Hi, I've got a Sony A317M laptop (1.7Cen, 512ram, 128mb ATI x600)

I've bought Max Payne 2 recently, and every couple of minutes the game slows down to a crawl, going at about 3fps. This goes on for about 5-10 seconds, then reverts back to normal, which is with highest settings (runs very smoothly, apart from the jitters.)

I thought that this might be a mousepad problem and disabled it in Sony controls. Still no luck.

Any ideas? tech support for the game wont answer my emails.

    thanks

Hi DAL, thanks for the quick reply.

Hardware scan is being a bit funny.. how long does it usually take?

When I ran the .hta file, it gave me an error:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line 47
    Char 1
    Error: type mismatch 'LoadScript'
    Code 0
URL: ...path to my IE temp folder\hwscan.hta

So I click, yes continue and left it for 5 minutes, no life.

Seems that one problem bore the next

    Are you running win98?

...Anyway in the meantime can you tell me what version of DirectX your running? You need at least version 9 - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...ds/default.htm

    Nope, XP Home
Would DXDiag and MSInfo do instead?

Yep, hit Start> Run then type dxdiag and then let me know the version number.

It's a pretty long file... do you want me to post the rest of it?

I keep thinking that it's not something deep down and complicated, but instead has a really simple and obvious solution, like turning vsync off or adjusting mouse refresh rate.. God knows.

    Hey, sorry for late reply.

Have you tried upgrading to the latest version of your graphics card drivers?

    Hiya DAL,

I havent upgraded, since Sony keeps a tight leash on available drivers. I have an ATI Mobile X600 128mb chip, and I can't find drivers for it that ATI says is ok for installing. They say 'please download drivers from your manufacturer.'
