Ok when i try to play uplink, i have installed the 1.31 upgrade patch from the official site, when i try to play uplink it tells me a fatal error occurs, which by then what usually goes through my head is "reinstall the game" but i can't because another error message appears when i try to uninstall the game in the first place (as some of the data may well be corrupt, as the first installation attempt went wrong) I have a high level of computer knowledge but have NO idea whatsoever how to get round this one....... Help would be much appreciated.

PS. the error message which is displayed, is as follows "The Log File 'C:\Program Files\Uplink\Uninst.isu' is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue" that is displayed when i try to uninstall.

What happens if you just try and install the game again over the original without un-installing?

Nothing, it just has the same error

Why don't you just go into C:\Program Files and delete the Uplink folder? this should contain all main files related to the game. Then try and install the game again.

Yes but deleting an installed file is dangerous because it leaves registry keys and cuts shortcuts, shared files etc

maybe but all your doing is deleting the main body to enable a fresh installation over any old files remaining. Anyway don't be such a wimp!
