    Games freeze, sound plays

I am having a problem running games. When I start a game, it allows me to go through the menus fine and everything, but once the actual gameplay starts, it freezes for a long time and will spastically return to being fine, but only for a second. The sound plays fine while this happens. I have been playing these games forever and have never had problems. I just reformatted my computer too, so I think it might be something physically wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions? I installed SP2 and all of the updates needed. I reinstalled the games that were giving me problems, and it still has the same problem. Should I mention that the games giving me problems are EA games? (NBA Live 2005 and Call of Duty) If anyone has an inkling of what may be wrong, please please please help! Thank you.

Ok, have you set the settings to what you normally have? Like when I had WC3, I had the sound seetings on Creative Labs EAX2 and it lagged A LOT, but when I changed it to Miles Emulated 3D, it ran smoothly. So check you settings on your games so you computer can handle it.
Did you download the latest directX? Video card drivers?

Yes, I have the settings where they have always been. I do have the latest nVidia driver for my ti 4200 and direct x 9c.

Ok, this might be a long shot, but have you download the latest patches for the games? or maybe try uninstalling SP2, you had SP1 before the reformat right?

the problem actually just randomly started. it happened with sp1 too. patches dont help. the games worked fine before, then all of a sudden they started crashing.

I would try and go back to my original settings if I were you. If it ain't broke why fix it?
