Games crash to windows or pc restarts
All games i have restart or crash to windows at random, sometimes ten minutes sometimes hours. But my comp never has problems as long as a game isnt running.
Specs: amd 64 3000+ cpu
512ddr400ram (low market range)
gigabyte k8snxp 64bit mobo with dps-dual power system (comatible with all)
Ti4200 geforce4 128mb
psu colors 400w silent power (probably low end)
All drivers have been fully updated, windows xp pro installed several times.
I have read all posts about game crashes/freezes etc. Any help would be appreciated, anyone else having same problem feel free to add on any info.

Re: Games crash to windows or pc restarts
Hmm…that seems like an awfully old graphics card to be using with such a new mainboard/processor. Assuming its not a PCI job and it’s using the AGP slot, most motherboards are backwards compatible so an X8 speed AGP slot should work with a 2X or 4X card, however the BIOS settings may have to be changed manually.
On start-up hit delete (or whatever key it is) and try and find an AGP BUS speed setting differential…set it to whatever the fastest BUS speed the card will run at (probably 4X) and try setting the graphics architecture down to 64MB (if there’s even an option).
If none of that works please post your online hardware so we can decide where to go from there.

Re: Games crash to windows or pc restarts
Thank you for answering my thread. I did have an fx5500 geforce but it also crashed and ran doom3 at a much lower fps then my ti so i kept my ti(agp8x). I do not understand what you mean by online hardware? As far as i know i posted all my hardware. O and also i am running win xp pro. And one game, counter strike, i can play on network without any crash.

Re: Games crash to windows or pc restarts
Sorry I just want you to do an online hardware scan using the…err… online hardware scan button in the hardware section of this website. Then post your results.
Oh and you could give us some background information about your PC like…
Is it a new/old/upgraded PC?
When did this start happening?
What was the last thing you did to alter your software / hardware?
Unfortunately complete lock up’s like your describing can be caused by anything but it’s usually something like bad memory or hardware over heating.
Can you get a temperature reading for your main board / processor / graphics card?
