hi all,
i did post this thread on another board and was asked to put it here to see if i can get more help..
i downloaded directx and the a game when the game comes on the screen, where the options, exit,start etc should be i have only white boxes. It was suggested that i should uninstal directx then reinstal, which i have done but unfortunately im still having the same problem, i cannot understand this as i was able to try the free download trial version. has anyone got any other suggestions pls.

What version of direct X does the game reccomend, they're supposed to be backwards compatible but sometimes it does mess up. Check whether there are any updates for the game on the developer's website to support later versions of DirectX.

thanks i'll try that. i have version 9.0 installed, but am wondering as i'm having similar prob to my mom maybe as suggested to her i have no 3d card?

I had the same problem with several games and I downloaded the up-to-date driver for my video card and that fixed it
Mabye that's the problem...

thanks for the reply, the message was posted in 2004, i solved the problem now, i bought a new pc.
