Might work OK if you reboot your PC to free up some resources and then try it again as soon as Windows has loaded up.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you're running though? Is it an MP3 music track that you've downloaded from a music site ... or is it a MP3 player or other software program that you've downloaded? What's the name of it? The reason I ask is that the good ones wouldn't normally give you an error like that and some of these web sites can be a good hiding place for viruses .... so it's best to be confident about what you're about to run.

P.S. What's the address of the site that you've used?

Hmmm, I'm still a bit unclear about what you've done. I don't think that you've actually downloaded the entire 247downloads.com web site onto your PC. That would probably take several months even on broadband!

It sounds like you've registered as a user with 247downloads.com, which you paid for, and then you've downloaded their software that allows you to search the site and download the MP3 music tracks that you want to find so that you can play the MP3 files on your PC.

When you run the "File Finder" search application (or the search part of the application) it gives you a "Run-time error 7: Out of memory" error followed by an Windows "Illegal Operation" error.

Does the run-time error message box have a title bar at the top of the box? What does it say in this title bar? That should be the specific program or file that raised the error.

When the Illegal Operation error comes up, what exactly does it say? Should be something like "Kernel32OrAnotherMajorWindowsComponent caused an illegal operation in AnImportantFileName.dll". You might need to click the Advanced button to see the extended information.

What's the spec of your PC? Processor? Memory (RAM, not your hard disk size)?

What version of Windows are you running? (If you aren't sure, click the Start Menu and it will say it in a blue bar on the left-hand side of the menu).

Sorry to answer your post with a load more questions but that information will help

    Blimey - 48% !

Windows 98 starts getting a bit messy when it gets to less than about 60-65% resources on most PCs.

Are you running any other programs at the same time, e.g. Internet Explorer? If so, close all other applications that you've got open and ensure that the file search thing is the only program you've got running. You should also close as many of the system tray programs as you can. The system tray is that little area of icons down by your clock in the bottom-right corner of the screen. You can normally right-click on these icons and there will often be a Close or Exit option. DON'T close any anti-virus or firewall / security programs though.

Because the error says 'File Finder full', I'm wondering whether you can restrict the search options a bit more so it retrieves fewer results. For example, if you're searching for an artist name, try searching for a specific song instead. There's also often a filter to say 'only retrieve songs that are 128kbps quality or higher' or something like that. That should bring back fewer results as well.

You could also see if there's an option to increase the amount of results that it can retrieve before it gets 'full'.

If none of that helps, come back to us and we'll talk you through checking your 'virtual memory' settings
