Windows protection Error

Windows protection Error
Hi there troublemaker here! When I start up my computer I get something called a windows protection error which completly stops the startup. It appears just before the password entry. The screen goes blue and says "Windows Protection Error. System Halted. You need to restart your computer." Upon restarting I am given an option to go through a step by step startup, a floppy disk boot, safe mode or normal. I have no Bootdisk and have no idea what to do in a step by step configuration. Safe mode has yielded no results (system restore etc.) and a normal start up just causes the problem again. I know that this problem is fixable as a friend fixed it while I was away in China. He has dropped off the radar and I haven't been able to ask him what he did. All help is welcome, thank you!!!

Have you recently installed any new hardware or upgraded any drivers? A Windows Protection Error is generally a hardware related issue.
Can you confirm exactly what the error message says? Is it just what you advised in your previous post or does it refer to any specific file names such as "Windows Protection Error in HPdriver.dll" ?

I just had the same thing happen to my computer. I was cleaning out my Temp. Internet Files and my computer just crashed on me. Now when I turn on the computer it loads impoperly and goes to the boot options screen and starts a countdown to reboot. I tried Normal and logged first but that makes the computer just restart, when i try safe mode it goes to the blue screen and says "Windows protection error. You need to restsrt your computer. System Halted. (blinking curser)", thats the complete error no file name are listed as error, etc. I tried the Step by Step logging, doing every combination of Y/n i could, but no matter what i do when it gets to the final Y/n it errors to the same blue screen. If i could get the computer to load in safe mode i'm, sure i could fix the problem, but i can't get that far. I dont have a boot disk for the computer eather and as far as i know have no way of getting one sence the computer wount load to the desktop, and reinstalling is not an option sence i dont have a WinME installation disk (they never sent me one when i bought the computer 4 years ago). If you you have any ideas how to fix this please let me know or email me. zrionhil@comcast.net

Zrionhill,
As per the forum rules, could you please post this message in a new thread rather than tagging onto the end of someone else's? Thanks.
