    Auto-play WAV files

When I right-click on a WAV file in windows Explorer it plays automatically, with no way to stop it. Since I am editing LOTS of music, this is annoying, as I have to wait until it stops. There is no application showing in the Task Manager. I would like to be able to choose whether to play the file or not.

Yep good point, if you LEFT-CLICK on the Windows Desktop do you get an options menu appear?

Whichever way...if the end result is that you are left-clicking then you may well have the option in Windows set which allows single-click execution rather than the traditional double-click. Let us know and we will let you know how to sort this.

I've had that problem for ages and i also play around with wav files all the time. My dodgy solution to it was create a really short blank wav file on the desktop (mine's about 0.1s worth of blank audio) and every time you right click on a wav file and it starts autoplaying, just go to the desktop and right-click on the blank wav you created. That should stop it. It's a hella annoying problem but I've learnt to live with it using this solution ^_^

Are you both running Windows XP? Is this one of those damn irritating ideas that Microsoft seemed to have crammed their latest operating system full of .... to give users a better XPerience ?!

I am almost sure that what You describe is not the default behaviour.
The wav files play back upon rightclicking the file name _before_ You select any context menu command. - Is that right?
Could it be that You guys installed a little application that has brought up this ugly behaviour?

At least that is what I did. I once was a bit fed up with having to open a dedicated program each and every time when I just wanted to prelisten a wav file. I found a program in the WWW that promised to play on rightcklick alone and installed it. I however shortly found out that I am now much worse off than before. Very often I just don't want to hear the file and as You have pointed out: playback of a long file will never end! Another ugly thing is that upon rightclicking a huge wav file (>500MB) the system swaps itself to death and that freezes the computer. I have no idea how to get rid off this crap. (Forgot the Name of the 'Application' and from where I downloaded it)
Maybe any of you remember where the installer came from (if it was that in your cases also). Hopefully we can find a way to uninstall this thing or get help from the author in removing it.

    thanks

    It's from the PICAVIEW software.
    Here's how to solve:
    Right click a "picture,"
    Go to "convert,"
    Then click on "options,"
Then Uncheck the "play wav files"

Good karma to those who help others.
