Angry This is getting on my tits.

If i stop using the PC to take notes ,or something for any lenth of time, it crashes totaly. Pressing ESC, F4, ALT+F4, Ctrl+F4 dosn't do anything. All i can do is, Ctrl+ALT+DEL (That dosn't allways work, and i have to turn off using the Power button). I then get a message saying:-

    WARNING!
The system is either busy or has become unstable. You can wait and see if it becomes available again, or you can restart your computer.
*Press any key to return to windows and wait, (screen go's blank and thats
it, I have to resort to the power button).
*Press Ctrl+ALT+DEL again to restart your computer. You will loose unsaved information in any programs that are running. (That done naffall, had to press Power button again).

    Press any key to continue-

I am using Win 98se with a Pentium II, 400MHz procesor.
I have 512 Mb RAM in the box, but according to the system information I only have 256Mb

Hope there is enough info, sorry if i went on. I realy need a fix.

I had similar problems and it was helped, not cured completely, by running a virus checker, turned out I had netsky and others.
It helped a bit but since then I had meltdown and have upgraded.
Try AVG or similar virus progs

The problem might also be that your screensaver is crashing. Or the monitor is trying to go into power-saving mode or the system is trying to go into standby and it's crashing when it tries to do it. I've seen all of these problems before. Try setting your screensaver to a longer period of time and see if the problem then takes longer to occur.

The problem might even be that you've got too much RAM!! 128Mb is the practical limit for Windows 98 - it generally doesn't run any better with more than 128Mb unless you're a real hardcore gamer or you use resource-hungry graphic design or CAD packages. If you need more memory than that, then it's time for a Windows upgrade! Maybe that's why your system is only reporting 256Mb. I've heard of Windows 98 systems running slower with more memory in them.
