Have you installed the latest drivers for your graphics card and/or monitor or the windows generic ones?

As regards the runnning slow, have you set up any virtual memory as you may be low on RAM.

Can't remember that much of win95, (I upgraded as soon as possible :-) ) Anyway, the settings will be in Control Panel, probably in the system section. Just look for Virtual Memory - It takes some of your hard disk space and uses it as extra RAM.

    sorry for the late response,

As far as I recall, it should be on the Advanced tab in the System section of Control Panel. When you go into the Virtual Memory screen, it will probably be on the option for 'Let Windows control my virtual memory'. Switch it to the option that lets you manage it yourself. You can then select your C: drive from the list and set a minimum value of 25Mb and a maximum value of 200Mb. You definitely shouldn't need more than that with Windows 95.

Incidentally, in your original post, did you mean "It has only 16-bit colour" or did you actually mean it has only 16 colours? If it's only running in 16 colours, then the graphics card drivers would definitely be the first thing to check out.

Go into Control Panel and double-click the Display option. On the Settings tab, if it says that your using a "Standard VGA graphics card" or something like that, then you need to load the proper drivers as you won't get it to run any better than 640x480 pixels in 16 colours. In fact, even the Windows 95 generic SVGA graphics driver isn't great either.

Let us know how you get on or whether you need more help

Ah, here's another thing to check.

Go into Control Panel and double-click on the System icon. On that first screen that opens, it will tell you that it's Windows 95 and then it will give you a version number (4.00.95 I think). PLEEEEEASE tell me that there's a letter after the number !! It should be a, b or c to indicate whether you've got Windows 95 SR1, SR2 or SR2.5.
