Accessing Yahoo Mail!
On my laptop when I try to access my
mail account it try's to download a
file, this always times out and I can
not access my account, on any other PC
I can...the file it trys to download
is as follows
"Internet Explorer cannot
download
login?.rand=bki52def10mcr from
uk.254.mail.yahoo.com"
Any ideas anyone as to why this is??
-
The uk.254.mail part of the text denotes which server your mail resides on on Yahoo. Would I be right in assuming that you are with BT Yahoo or NTL, because I almost positive that this is one of those reserved for NTL and BT customers
Try accessing it directly on the Yahoo web page or try again as it is likely to be a mail server fault

Yeah I am staying at a house with NTL line....no matter how I try to get into Yahoo mail I get the same folder/file transfer problem....
I'll try and login from a BT line somewhere else and see if I get the same problem!
Cheers!

The problem arises methinks from the fact that NTL doesn't allow actually allow off-domain SMTP access. They may be blocking any traffic that uses port 25 to prevent spammers from clogging up their network to some SMTP
mail server on some other domain

i was getting exactly the same problem. yahoo would only let me login once a week or so. It was only happening on pcs, and only from home (NTL line).
anyway i fixed it. i had to change my line from NTL to BT, and since the changeover the problem has gone. it really is NTL that's doing it.
It's weird, because NTL can't possibly know about any SMTP information at yahoo, that's all done on the yahoo server. All the info travelling through NTL from me to yahoo is just html: the same as any other site. Also, it only started happening when yahoo upped their quota to 100MB. maybe NTL were jealous? conspiracy!!

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem when trying to access my email at yahoo and I have a NTL.
What is the solution????
-
So far, it seems that the only solution is to use a BT phone line instead of an NTL line. You might want to try going to http://mail2web.com and logging on to your mail server with your Yahoo username and password - see if that works.

Canfordcliffs,
Did you get your problem sorted? Or, at least, confirm whether it's the line that's causing it?
