Sorry, I'm a little confused by this one. Doesn't sound like the support guys actually told you anything useful at all
Could you please confirm the following:
1. Your PC is running Windows 2000;
2. Your PC is not on a network;
3. Do you connect to the Internet via a 56k modem or a ADSL broadband?
4. The reason that Internet Explorer gave you the DNS "Cannot find page" error sounds like it's because you weren't connected to the Internet. When you tried to re-connect, you say that it wouldn't let you - what exactly did it do?
I believe that the answer to question 4 will be the answer to your whole problem. I'm disregarding the support guy's comment because it doesn't mean anything.
Let us know the answers and we should be able to proceed in the right direction to a proper diagnosis

Sorry mate but I'm struggling to make sense of what you're saying
I would suggest re-installing Internet Explorer.
Anyone else got anything to add?

i would go to Internet options, and check to see what your connection is. Maybe it was accidentally set on a lan or something. But if not, i would do what DJNAFEY said, just re-install it. But make sure you erase it first. otherwise, the files would write over eachother, and you maight get the same problem.
