hpsom caused and error in oleaut32.dll

I recently installed an hp 7960 printer with it's drivers. If I boot the pc with the printer off I get the following error:

HPOSm ans caused an error in oleaut32.dll, windows will now close the program. Then it's followed by kernel32.dll error.

If I boot with the printer on it seems fine, no errors. is there a fix, hp tech support is useless. tia

This particular error seems common. Have you checked for the fatest drivers at HP. When I bought my printer the driver was 2 months out of date. You might read through here http://www.nocrash.com/ncbbs/msgs/3417.shtml as the solutions sound about right.

Thank you for your response, am answering you in hopes others may benefit. The link you posted did lead me in the right direction. it seems one of the programs included in the hp software send/receives data while online.

The fact that I have a router/firewall preventing it from accomplishing whetever it's doing caused the crash. Now all I have to do it find out how to let just that program gain access as the so called patch doesn't work
