    slight error on my part...

    Ok I'm new here, and new to selling computers so I made a leetle mistake, and sold 3 laptops for internet users that now refuse to get online. They're low spec and a bit old (pII 366mhz, 6.4gb, 128mb RAM, etc.) and every time my customers are trying their respective ISP's cds, they get an illegal operation message.

    Now I really should have thought about this, but when I sent them I knew that the inetcfg.dll file wasn't working, it wasn't bloody even there, so I downloaded at (at the price of £6.99) like an idiot and named it and placed it correctly. The goddam machines didn't ever recognize it before I shipped them, so I just did a clean install and offered a prayer up to the god of divine interventions.

    I may be begging you all now, but please, for the love of all that is sacred can anyone help?
    I have sold them to the boss's daughter and I need to get this sorted very very badly.

    Many thanks in anticipation
    Tim.

    Oh dear Tim, looks like you've learned a few valuable lessons here:

    1. Don't ship a system that you know has a problem (we all get a bit optimistic and keep our fingers crossed when we ship a system from time to time but it will inevitably come back to bite you on the bum);

    2. Don't pay for files that are free on the Windows CD !

    3. When you're venturing into a new area of technology and trying a little money-spinner that you're not yet particularly experienced in, don't use your boss or any of his/her family as one of your test customers !

    I did spend quite a while searching the 'net for this problem very late the other night but it looks like I must have fallen asleep halfway through because it seems that I never actually posted a response! The web search that I would use at www.google.com would be "inetcfg.dll illegal operation". I recall that there were some articles in the Microsoft KnowledgeBase about this file

    You know, I'm inclined to agree with you about all that!!

    thanks for looking that up that's really appreciated, I'll try to get some joy out of Microsoft (not that it's ever happened before)

    Really shouldn't have sold to the boss's daughter, that phrase about defecating on ones own doorstep comes to mind
    Thanks again

    Tim
