I have an older computer with windows 98se and there is no cd-rom in the device manager or in my comuter. There are 2 cd/dvd drives in the computer. I have tried unplugging everything and plugging back in and that did not work. They are recognized when the computer is booting up. Any help out there? I do have a startup disk and a windows 98se cd.

Can you share the fix? It's been a long time since many have run 98SE.

I went into safe mode where the drives showed up in device manager and deleted them. Then shut down the pc and unplugged the power supply to the cd drives, started the pc back up, then shut the pc off again and plugged the power supply back into the cd drives. Then turned the pc back on and the cd drives where recognized.
