Display Setting Problem

Display Setting Problem
Hello,
My home TIME PC had Windows 98 installed and it had functioned normally for a considerable time, and this includes all matter concerning the display settings. When I purchased the computer it came with a Windows 98 CD Rom and TIME System & Driver CD Rom version 6.0.
Recently the Windows 98 operating system had developed a number of problems. So this year I have had to uninstall the Windows 98 operating system and reinstall the operating system. I now have the operating system Windows 98SE installed on my computer.
I currently find that my PC has a problem with the display settings. As far as I can tell, that the PC is working normally in all other respects. The display settings work normally when set to 16 colours, however I find I cannot change the display settings to either 256 colours or High colours [16 bit]. My PC needs the display to be set to 256 colours, for certain games to be displayed on the computer monitor screen. When I try to change the display settings to 256 colours I see the following message on my PC monitor screen:- "here is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware." Have you any ideas as to how I sort out the adapter/settings problem so that I can set the display settings to 256 colours?
My PC has the following adapter / driver information:-
ATI 3D RAGE PRO {English}{Direct X}
Manufacturer ATI - Enhanced
Chip type Mac64 RAGE PRO
DAC type Internal
Memory 8MB
Software version 4.02
Current files macxw4.drv,*vdd,*vflatd,macxw4.vxd
Note:- When I try to change the driver my PC informs me that it recommend I continue to use the one currently installed on the PC.
I also have a problem with the display setting while surfing the Internet using the 16 colours display setting. Text and some .GIF computer files containing coloured drawing appeared as normal on my monitor screen, however a block, or section of one colour, such as that that might appear either at the top, or down the side of the web page, instead of appearing as a single block of solid colour appears with a sort of chequered pattern mixed in with the colour. Also some .JEPG computer files containing photographs appeared blurred on the monitor screen. Have you any ideas as to how I may remove the sort of chequered pattern from the coloured sections found on web pages, and also remove the blurring from photographs found on the web?
Regards, Robert Heywood.

Welcome to D-A-L.
You should find the required drivers to get your machine set up here;
Drivers for Discontinued ATI Rage? Series Products for Windows 98/Windows 98SE/Windows ME
Post back with your results please, and any further questions.

Hello Moderator,
Please note;- my PC has Windows 98SE installed.
i have had a look at the website you list Major problems with obtaining the driver from the; these are as follows:-
1) I only have a narrowband connection to the Internet and the drive size may be in the region of 10MB.
2) the only information about the graphics adapter installed on my computer is ATI 3D RAGE PRO (English) (DirectX) and I do not know which drive to down load from the website. Are you able to help identify the correct driver on the website?
I do have a TIME Computers System & Driver CD Rom obtained when I purchased the computer, and it then has the operating system Windows 98 installed. The computer now has Windows 98SE installed.

Hello. Moderator.
Please bear in mind I only have a narrowband connection to the Internet.
I have just identified the ATI 3D Rage RRO Windows 98SE driver download link on the website you stated . When weach time I click on the download link I find I get the message that the webpage cannot be displayed so I cannot possibly download the the ATI 3D Rage RRO Windows 98SE driver, so have you much needed any suggestions?
Are you sure that the display problem with the 256 colour settings (see original/first posting) is a driver problem, or could there be a harware fault with the graphocs adapter. I wonder because I have Windows 98SE installed, often see ythe yellow triangle with the message alongside "errors on page" at the bottom of web pages when surfing the Web on my PC, and olny have a narrowband connection to the Internet; if the PC display problem is a driver problem, can that problem still be solved?

Did you try to download it from another machine?
(Download and install the very first "package" on the link I provided. (Version 4.13.7192))

Greetings Dan,
Have been to one of my local compuer shops, and had the Windows 98SE compatible driver for the graphics adapter ATI 3D RAGE PRO (English DirectX) downloaded from the website/webpage you stated. The display settings problem was solved once the driver was installed on my PC.
Many thanks for you help.
