No Sound from PC
Please can anyone help me, as I have lost the sound from my PC. I was cleaning out files & may have deleted something some files necessary to run sound. The sound used to play fine.
I have checked the Multimedia option in control panel, but this was greyed out on "audio section".
[B]When I try to play a video that contains sound, I get the message in media player "Cannot play back the audio stream: No audio hardware is available(error = 00040258". As stated that sound did play before I cleaned out files, so there is a sound card.My PC is a Compaq Deskpro that runs Win 98.
I also tried a system restore but it did not help. I think I have the driver loaded but not 100% sure if right driver as there is a question mark besides it.
Also Can anyone tell me which standard sound driver is suitable for a Deskpro 6266 running Win 98.Please can anyone assist as I must have deleted files associated with the sound option to play.
Thank you.

I've found this website: http://www.compaq.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html
This is Compaq's own website.
Select 'Software & Driver downloads' and then where it asks you to enter the product number just type 'Deskpro 6266'.
You will then be presented with 11 choices for that model so you'll need to maybe take the model number off the back of your PC. Once you have the correct info you'll then need to select the 'Download drivers and software' option, then it will ask exact model details again and then Operating System.
Hopefully this will give you what you need. Please post back with results.
