    Sudden Networking Failure

If anyone can help with a new issue I've run into, I'd be very appreciative. Specifically, I have a home network which has been happily functioning for some time. There is one 98SE system, one desktop XP system, one wirelessly connected XP system, and one Vista system, via a Linksys router. All of a sudden, the 98SE computer cannot "see" the other computers on the network. The other computers can "see" the files on the 98SE system (they are shared)...I can ping the other computers from the 98SE system...multiple reboots have not fixed the problem. I have not installed any new software or hardware, this just started spontaneously. Should I try removing and then adding NetBEUI...should I just take the old computer out back and shoot it? Thanks again for any possible suggestions.

    Welcome to techhelpforum.

How long has it been since this problem with the 98 machine surfaced? (# of days)

Is the 98 machine always on, or is it shut down on a given basis (nightly)?

Is scanreg.ini (still) enabled in it's startup? (This can be checked through msconfig/Startup tab. (Start, Run, type in msconfig and hit ENTER.))
