First of all I wanted to thank you for your continued interest. Obviously you like a challenge. I'm not sure whether my relative has now got a mindset on a new PC and whether she is up for the same challenge.

I will see how she feels. In the meantime, I have asked her whether she can connect to the internet or whether her internet connection set up has been adversely affected by the recent actions. I'll report back to you.

By the way, just as a matter of interest, I have Everest Home Edition on my PC.

My relative did have a zip programme on her PC, but again not sure that it's working now. If she can get internet connection she can most certainly download winzip.

Whe she attempts to connect to the internet she gets the message that there is not enough memory (although of course we know there is) and she is asked to delete one or more programmes.

It sounds as if the repair instal has screwed things up more than could have been expected. I have to keep phoning her with instructions and I fear that this whole process is going to become too cumbersome (not to mention expensive in terms of time and indeed money).

As I've said I do appreciate your interest, but I don't think she or I can find the time or indeed inclination to pursue this further with an old PC and a now unsupported operating system.

I think it is time for her to let go and update.

OK. I didn't realize that there would be costs involved, as well as possible phone support or distances traveled to get things to the machine. The problems mentioned thus far can be worked around, with a little time and a little effort, but it appears that your situation precludes these actions.

If there's a "change of heart", just post and we'll pursue. I get notifications of updates to threads via email through the forums, and I'm off work until Tuesday morning.

Your involvement as far as we have gone has been most welcome and encouraging Dan. It's comforting to know we now have a contact who may be able to help us out of trouble that is beyond us in the future.
