    Iexplore stops responding

    I have an old Windows ME. I have removed the unwanted programs in “Startup” which has stopped it crashing every time I started it up or closed it down.
    I installed IE6 which works great but sometimes when I close my PC down it still crashes. I found out by using the Ctrl/Alt/Delete keys that this is because “Iexplore” has stopped responding. If I leave it for a couple of minutes the message disappears and I can shut down OK, but if I forget and shut down by going to “Start”>”Shut-down” etc it crashes.
    What makes the “Iexplore” stop responding and is it possible to fix it without re-installing…….again.:throw:

    I've never run ME, so my help is limited to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I did an Advanced Search for the specific problem, in the ME O/S (Operating System), and it produced one result;

    http://support.microsoft.com/search/...9&mode=a&adv=1

    That result;

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221512/en-us

    states to restore the registry (scanreg /restore). However, this may not do anything other than bring you back to the same problem state.

    You can give it a go, and see what happens. Just be sure to pick a restore date which coincides with a non-error state. (Which you may not have.)

    Is it only Internet Explorer which induces the crash problem, or are there any other occurrances?

    How much memory (RAM) is in the machine?

    How many things are set to run on system startup?

    It is only the “Iexplore” that causes the problem I’m sure, because it only happens when I close down immediately after I come off the internet.
    I used to have so many crashes that I almost gave up on the darn thing but persevered and closed down everything that wasn’t needed.
    All I have running in “Startup” now is “Explorer”, “Avgemc”, “Avgcc” and “Systray”.
    It isn’t too much of a problem if I come off the net and wait for a couple of minutes, but if I close it down straight away it can crash. The thing is it doesn’t do it every time and sometimes it closes down without a problem. :-k
    It’s probably one of Billy Gates’s little ruses to make me go and buy his new system so that he can add a little more money to his piggybank.:roll:
