Ive just instaled a second hard drive in a second computor that is running windows 98,can you tell me how to format it,its set at slave,cant seem to get it to work,any help please,birdman1

Here's an overview on physically installing hard disks. It covers (E)IDE, SATA, & SCSI hard disks;

Your disk jumper settings are the most important factor in getting the disk properly recognized by the system. Note that some hard disks have a jumper setting for Master with Slave. If your original hard disk has such a setting, and it's currently just set to Master, you will have to change the jumper on that original drive.

Once the new hard disk is installed and properly detected by the machine, it may have to be partitioned before My Computer or Windows Explorer will "see" it. If either of these applications "see" it upon installation, then the choice can be made to format the disk as one large partition, or set up multiple partitions using fdisk.

Here's some info on using fdisk to partition hard disks, and hard disk limitations you may possibly run into depending on your disks size.
