    Wink Desperately Seeking Help!!!!!

    eace: :yippee:

    Windows 2000 Professional

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:confused Hello Everyone!! I am new to this site, but think I will Love it,because I love the computer and internet!!!!!!!!!!!

Could someone please help me with this problem or issue I have regarding this message I receive when I boot up. It goes as windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

I am really at my wits end as to how to resolve this issue without having to reformat my drive and reinstalling windows. And Lord only know I really don't want to, plus I would lose all I have which is quite a few files. And if I would have had any idea this was going to happen I would have at least tried to back them up

Please if someone could help me with this and a simpler way I'd be forever grateful. I have read about it and I have tried some things, but to no avail and the other stuff to be hones I don't understand it all. Thanks so much, wka233

I have tried Repairing and not luck, tried to get in Safe Mode, no luck!! I have tried to enter commands, but don't understand all that lingo, values, etc.

I have tried using the Operating Reinstallation Disk and Resource Disk several times and no luck at all

Sure ho hope someone out there can help me Lord only knows I don't want to have to reformat and reinstall windows. Thanks in advance wka233

Use the Windows 2000 emergency repair process
    1. Start the computer by using the Windows 2000 compact disc (CD-ROM).
    2. At the Welcome to Setup menu, press R.
    3. Press R to select the emergency repair process.
    4. Press M to select Manual Repair.
    5. Press ENTER to perform the selected tasks.
    6. Follow the remaining instructions to repair the Windows 2000
    installation.

"the Windows 2000 compact disc (CD-ROM)." would be the Operating System disk.

With it as well you can run a Repair Install if all else fails as seen here:

Thanks again Jephree for trying to help, I went to that link and followed all the steps, but unfortunately no luck, but I believe it boils down to that missing or corrupt file which is ntoskrnl.exe. And as bad as I hate to I may have to reformat and install windows again. I even transered some files on floppys and tried to get those boot it up, but no luck, thanks again, wka233

Get a USB data stick, backup your data .. and reformat.. its alot faster.

Thanks for responding, but my problem is more complicated,it will not boot up, no matter what I've tried I maybe could resolve this problem, but really need a step by step process from someone because I would need to have the right commands or values. I have tried numerous things and from several people, but unfortunately to no avail. So I believe as bad as I hate to start over and reinstall windows, though I really hate losing all my stuff. Thanks again for your suggestions and for other help as well,wka233 :eyespop:

You can slave this drive on a desktop computer to extract the data before reinstalling the Operating System.

You would need a working desktop to start with.

Then remove the hard drive from the 2K machine.

On the back of the hard drive there is a "jumper" which is just a small plastic sleeve with a metal plate inside that connects two pins. The hard drive will most likely show you the options and positions for either/or Master - slave - Cable Select

Most likely it is now Master. Set it to slave.

Then on the working desktop insert this drive on the Primary slave connection. The IDE cable will have a blue plug at the motherboard and a black plug at the hard drive Master. There will be a grey plug in the middle of the cable for a slave drive. Hook your 2K drive to this slave connector and then boot the computer. From the working Master drive you will be able to access all the data on the 2K drive (assuming that the drive is mechanically sound).

From here you can copy to the other drive or burn to DVD/CD what have you.

Let us know if you need further clarification.
