reset command in Win98
Is there a way to reset a computer running on Win98 to an earlier date to restore database files? On 8/31, the database I use was up to date, but on 9/5 the office computer geek overwrote my files with earlier files which are incomplete. So now I have files missing. If I could go back to 8/31, my files would be complete. Can anyone help me?

I gather you are talking about a system restore. If you have backup files for that date, the procedure is fairly simple;
If Windows is running, restart in MSDOS mode. At the resulting command prompt, type in scanreg/restore. You should be presented with up to five dates to restore from. The normal course of action is to pick a date which preceeds your current problem. (Whatever that may be.) Any software installs and MS Updates etc which were installed after the date you pick will have to be reinstalled, as an earlier registry will be put in place.
However, scanreg, if properly invoked* will save a new backup group of files on every successful boot, within a 24 hour period. So, if you've booted the system more than five or six times since Aug. 30, these files will be overwritten.
*Click Start, Run, type in msconfig. Click on Startup. There should be a check mark in the box for Scanreg.
