Sound gets distorted randomly on Toshiba A45
Sound gets distorted randomly on Toshiba A45
Computer: Toshiba Satellite A45-S151
Sound Card: SoundMax integrated digital audio
OS: Windows 2000 Pro SP4
Driver: DirectX9, SoundMax drivers v 5.12.1.3670
Problem:
Sometimes during the playing of music, the sound raises in pitch or begins to clip. This happens at random times, but is more frequent as I am running another program, such as a browser. This problem has always existed and happens no matter what player I use (VLC and WMP, though I mostly use VLC). What can I do to resolve the issue of distorted sound? I like to listen to music as I browse, but I can't. If someone could help me with this I would appreciate it so much
Additional, possibly useless information:
Firefox, 2.8GHz P4 w/ 512MB RAM, WMP6, VLC, ZoneAlarm Pro v4.5, Wireless internet, integrated Intel Extreme Graphics video

Erm, my first thought in reading your problem was "this guy's PC has hardly got any memory" but then I read your technical info at the bottom (which is very USEFUL information by the way!) and that definitely doesn't seem to be the case. Your PC is a faster spec than mine and I can run pretty much whatever I want at the same time as playing my music.
Is the Toshiba Satellite a laptop? Don't know why I asked that actually - it makes no difference. What I was leading onto was ........ Are you running decent speakers at a sensible volume or are you thrashing a cheap / tiny audio setup as loud as it can go?
The reason I ask is that I'm quite into ICE (car stereos) and 'clipping' is something that occurs on amplifiers when you're running them a little bit too loud. Does turning it down help?
-
Thanks for the response. This occurs with the laptop speakers, external speaker system and headset I have. And yes, it is a laptop.
-
Hmmm, so it doesn't seem to be a volume issue then?
And your laptop sounds pretty new so I'm assuming there are no later drivers for the sound. Have you checked though? I've known systems to ship with drivers that were 2 or 3 years old before.
Pretty stumped by this one
- think I'll have to leave this open to suggestions from other members.
-
It could actually be a faulty sound chip I suppose. Have you tried calling Toshiba tech support?
-
Latest drivers as far as I know, I downloaded them.
Toshiba support is no help. They refuse to help you unless you use Windows XP and there is no way I am soiling a perfectly good Win2k installation with WinXP.

lol. An understandable point of view

hi
I'm with a brand new a45-s250 and it's with a really annoying noise, wich appears to come from the speakers.
When I'm runnig with the battery, it starts to make a buzzing noise, wich
gets higher when I use the touch pad. It get worst as the baterry charge
gets lower, i.e, above 80% , or when not using the battery, it's barelly
noticeable
any opinion will be wellcome
thank you

Macromedia,
Could you please post this in a new thread rather than taking over someone else's thread? Thanks very much.
