Windows 2000 Pro
I'm always reluctant to use Windows 2000 Pro when setting up a machine as I always have problems with INF files. Let me explain:
Scenario: Say I am looking for drivers for a sound card, modem, network card, etc, etc, I will find the driver at driverguide.com. I'll download the driver file to my desktop. Most of the time it is a zip.file and I'll unzip the file and put the files in the appropriate folder, sound card driver folder, video card driver folder, etc, etc.
When the machine detects the device I will point it to the appropriate folder with the driver files. When using Win 98 and Win ME the folder always shows all of the files and the device loads just fine. When I use Win 2000 pro, it only shows the INF files. I went to the top tool bar (folder options) and click the box that said (show all files). I also went to the bottom of the dialog box (driver folder) so I could click all files but it's not highlighted and there is no access. Any other operation system will show all of the files except windows 2000 pro. I need some help with this one. I like windows 2000 pro but always run into the same problem with the folder with the driver files only showing the INF files and not the rest of the files. Please advise.
