i have a compaq presario 7594 loaded with windows 98se.
ok this is what happened.
my daughter went to a site and we had problems with errors coming up afterward. i had installed norton on my computer and it asked to have three disks to recover from if anything happens so i did. well i tried putting the disk in and a screen came up then afterward my computer died. all my computer will do now is turn on light up the cdrom drive (for a second then it doesn't do anything) and then it shows the compact logo then i get an error stating i have no operating system. it does not read the disk drive (a. i went to staples and they stated that the computer it trying to load from the cd drive and i should turn the computer on and push F1 or delete and i should get a screen that will let me change the order in which my computer will load. they told me to choose the hard drive. problem is it doesn't work. i've tried every F button on my keyboard along with the delete button. still does the same thing when it turns on. shows the compaq logo and then tells me i have no operating system. i tried to put the disk restore in the cd drive and it doesn't read them either.
does anyone have any ideas on what happened and how i can fix it?

I normally find that tapping the Esc key when booting the computer will take me to the boot menu

i hit the esc key also and no luck does the same thing

was the Norton disk you put in a floppy disk?

did you take the floppy out of the drive when you restarted the computer?

i don't remember. why?

someone told be i might of lost my bios? i don't know what that is

check the floppy drive, if the floppy is in it, take it out and reboot and see what happens

you know when your computer first starts it lights up the cdrom drive and the floppy drive. well my computer light comes on with the cdrom drive for a second but the floppy drive that doesn't light up at all

When hitting the "delete" key....sometimes it helps to tap very fast..quick successive .....just keep tapping delete as soon as you turn the system on so you can set the BIOS to boot from the CD ROM......it's worth a try...
