okay so i have windows ME on my compaq. problem is when i press the button to start it, i turn on my computer and screen and i hear the noices but i see nothing. its all black. i just have a black screen. i have done that a few times. finnaly i pressed ctrl alt delte twice to restart it and my computer finnaly turned on. anyone kno whats going on?

There could be a couple of reasons that I think of off the top of my head. You might try to clear your CMOS to see if there might be some minor corruption there. Second, it might be a boot.ini file messed up.

Also, there could be some other issues. What might be important is to know is if you have the setup disks from Compaq, or do you have a regular OS disk?

If you can get it going again, go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager....when there see if you have any yellow marks or red marks beside the items that would indicate a driver problem.

It is also a very good idea when you post a question if you list your hardware including motherboard, video card, CPU, drives, and brand name and watts of your power supply, etc., etc.....you get the picture.
