Hi i am wanting to upgrade my version of win 95 to 98 or me. Win 95 cant be use with alot of programs so i am wanting to upgrade. I saw on ebay they have the disks on there for the complete system or to upgrade to a higher version. . What do i need to get?? I do not have any disks for the computer i have now and i am wondering if i upgrade to 98 or me will i lose any software for my components like my modem or sound card. I do not care bout my documents on here i just want to get a higher version of windows and have internet explorer! Thats all i need...so if anyone has any info please let me know THANKS!!

Hiya binkyj1101. Welcome to CbtTechs :wave:

Being as you don't have your original Win95 disk i would recommend you buy the full product and not just the upgrade from Win95. That way if anything goes wrong in the future you will still be able to re-install the operating system.

All the drivers needed should come pre-installed with your new operating system. Internet Explorer comes built in to Windows as standard

Now your decision is which version to buy. That isn't something i can really comment on because i haven't used those operating systems much.

Just go buy a new set of Win XP Home disks. Provided your PC can run it (which may be doubtful), Win XP is the way you should go (to get maximum compatibility and security).
Maybe its time to look into getting a new PC?

First, as Vidster mentioned drivers shouldn't be a problem. The Windows you will probably want, as Alex said, if your PC can handle it (if its running 95 now I doubt it can support XP), if not Windows 98 is a great OS, but keep in mind Microsoft is almost done with it. So that means no more Windows Updates will be issued shortly, as it is now with 95. ME is just horrid, unless you like crashing PCs

I found Windows 2000 to be pretty ok. That could be another choice for you.

Windows 2k is a foundation of XP, if your PC can handle it, definitely get it if at all possible. Excellent recommendation Alex

I really would not reccomend ME I have had so many issues with that OS.

how do i know what my pc can handle...it is a gateway 2000, how do i find out if it can handle xp or whatever

Do you know anymore? Like amount of RAM, HD Space, Processor speed?

Ok i decided im gonna get win 98, i found the info for my computer on gateways website and for my modem and sound card they need win 98 or 95, so i am just going to get win 98. I was looking on ebay and there are a few of the win 98 on there. alot of them were like 80 or 90 dollars. but i found 1 that is 24 dollars but ends in 7 hours and i cant get it that soon. Does anyone know where i can get win 98 full version for under 80 bucks? Or does anyone have win 98 that they can sell to me? Or ANYTHING??? I dont want to pay 80 or 90 bucks for win 98, im sure i will find another win 98 on ebay for cheaper than 80 but i dont know how soon! Please help!
