windows ME, error message and a bit slow

hi, well i installed a fresh copy of windows me on my computer (long story)..

well sometimes when i click shut down, after a few second i get a blue screen sayin "an error has occured" now it doesnt tell what error it was or anything. i press cntrl+alt+delete nothing happens so i have to press the on button and hold it till it forces computer to restart.

k well the steps i have taken

i ran computer in safe mode, then i did a system scan. it found no errors,
    i then defraged
then restarted ran anti virus, found nothing
    ran spy ware, found nothing.

    now any tips?

ohh and also since windows me doesnt come with a cd burner does anyone know of a program that allows to burn data, music and copy cds for FREE. (frees is the key word lol!)
    thanks for any help
    bye!

You say this "sometimes" happens when you shutdown. Does this also occur on reboot?

Is there any ONE task you can remember doing, such as "defrag", just before these error screens take place? Can you make the error happen?

It sounds like some type of shutdown error, but is there anything written on the screen? Strange numbers? If so, write them down and post them.

There is also quite a few tips on this page you might like to try. I have battled WinME before, and it is a beast!

k, i just tried shutting my computer down right now. my screen went blue and now it said

windows protection.... you must restart your computer

    system haulted

idk what to do.. its really anoying, the screen wouldnt let me do anything so i had to restart my computer the wrong way...

recent things i installed was may be norton anti virus. and i have zonealarm too.. so could it be that?

I don't think it would hurt to uninstall Norton and see how your system performs.

Here is an article that describes somewhat of what is happening to you, but this workaround really isn't the longterm answer.

Try AVG anti-virus ....the free version for now, and read through this page.

Hope that helps or someone comes along who knows more..
