    Question Is it a virus?

Hi all, I've got a BIG problem on my Computer. I apear to have a virus called win32.Aveo but that's only a guess. I checked with the Norton Antivisus Enbylopedia and put in attune in the search and up it came. I'm using Win 2000 Pro and MO XP Pro. Both have been repaired and reinstalled. When I boot up I get a message telling me another shortcut is being installed and clicking on it stops it. Then I get a message that tells me to install 'Attune 13.2'. On this message I have to click canec several time until it goes butit always comes back. When I reinstaled MO the request for its **** stopped but I got one asking for Coral Draw 12 which I deleted a couplle of weeks ago. The computer is slower and at one point yesterday, almost dead. Now it's a bit quicker. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do please. Many thanks Les

Sorry for taking so long to reply Lester (work :? )
I'm using Win 2000 Pro and MO XP Pro.
Are you saying you have both these operating systems installed on one computer?
If you have, then there may be a conflict and your computer may be trying to boot both operating systems at the same time.

If i remember rightly you have already run Ad-Aware,Spybot,CWShredder and AVG7.
I would now recommend that you create a new folder on your desktop by right clicking on a blank part of the screen and selecting 'New' then 'Folder'. Name it HJT. Now open the HJT utility you downloaded yesterday and select 'Do a system scan only'. Once completed you will see a 'Save Log' button at the bottom. Save the log to the new folder you created on your desktop.
Now copy the entire log and post it here.
Myself or someone else will then move this thread into the 'HijackThis Logs' forum where someone will analyze the log and give you further instructions.

Hi everyone, Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately my computer died so I had to do a complete reinstall. Plus is that I no longer have the problem. There's a computer buff in my village who told me it was definately the Attune Aveo virus. It was hiding behing the system and EVERY program was infected. Again thanks and I'll keep this forum for reference. Les

Me again, I also forgot to say the virus was a 'Trojan downloader' and I had dozens of them. Please BEWARE because it's a nightmare. Les

Lester, i my opinion, when the virus has infected so many files, I believe a clean install is the best approach. Good Luck, and I hope you come back and join us in the future.

You do have a properly configured software firewall installed, don't you??? If not, install one. The following two are free for personal use: -
