If you just need to repair files you can try: start Run...

    sfc /scannow

Note the space between sfc & /scannow. You will be asked to insert your CD. If this were to work the damaged files would be copied from the CD.

    Otherwise:

Unless you have the original 2K disk from Compaq I don't see how you can do a repair unless you want to and remove service packs to back it down to the level of the 2K CD you do have.

Otherwise you can "wipe" the drive and install either 2K or XP. The link I posted for your model lists drivers for both.

What do you want to do?

I would like to install XP on it, But this computer only has 20GB will this make a different?
The copy I tryed I don't have a key! It's build in the disk I don't know for sure.

Now the smaller version that has 7 disk I don't anything about the key. so I think the safe Way would be XP.

XP SP2 which you would need to update to loads about 2.5GB but then wants System Restore @12% + page file so XP itself needs 4 to 5 GB.

After that it depends on what you want to load and what you want to use the computer for.

You can always add external drives for data and pictures etc. but Program Files need to load on the C: system drive so you are limited to like 10GB of program files. You never want to load a hard drive over 75% as again it is used for page file and restore.

First off I cannot guarantee it will work but I don't see why not and I've done many installs. Just so you know there is always a risk. You can also always load ubuntu Linux which is free.

    Download Ubuntu | Ubuntu

Anyway first off get these drivers for your Compaq or at least bookmark this page:

Compaq Evo D500 Ultra-slim Desktop- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

Next create a floppy for KillDisk

Active@ Kill Disk Hard Drive Eraser. Low Level Format.

Boot KillDisk and have it wipe that drive. All data will be lost so take anything you want beforehand.

After KillDisk boot the XP CD and start a Clean Install. Just follow the prompts.

Here is a guide should you need it:

    XP Clean Install

You just need the drivers for your OS version.

    You will load:

    1) XP

    2) Windows Updates (SP3)

    3) Drivers

If you find you cannot get online after loading XP to get to Windows Update then go ahead and load the LAN driver.

Some drivers, most likely graphics drivers, will require at least SP2 prior to install.

If you ran KillDisk you have a blank hard drive.

Boot the XP CD and choose a Clean Install of XP (no upgrade nor repair).
