    IE upgrade..Is it possible?

    I have 98se and I am saddled with IE 5.0. My home computer is not online...everything I want...I have to download at the library. Some of the games I have bought need 9.0 !!! I downloaded the 9.0 that was supported by 98se...but...upon trying to install it...I was rudely informed that I did not have internet service(which I already knew...well...DUH). Is there a way around this? One of the games needs 5.1(you'd think they would forgive a measley .1 ...but nooooo!!). I am told that I need to install .Net 2...or something....well, what I am trying to do here is ask...What are my options(wow...that was simple).

    Find out by installing a open source browser like Firefox, Opera, or Sea Monkey, or Flock and see if your game site supports any of those. I know Opera can be installed and is compatible with all versions of Windows, even Windows 95.

    You can download the installers for any of these browsers to USB Stick and install them after hooking up your Lan connection to your computer while installing browser. I hope that is clear enough. Good luck.

    What is a "Lan Connection?" (DUH!!!)

    LAN = Local Area Network

    If you don't use a 33.3 : 56.6 Phone MODEM to connect to your ISP (Internet Service Provider), then you are/or will be using a LAN connection. (This can also be called/known as a NIC (Network Interface Connection). These connections (generally) use ETHERNET cables/connectors. They look very similar to phone line connectors, but are slightly larger.

    An ADSL or CABLE modem will be used for the incoming internet signal, then an Ethernet cable will connect your ADSL or CABLE modem to your NIC, which is/should be in your computer.

    I have 98se and I am saddled with IE 5.0.
    First of all, does this 98SE machine still exist, or, is this the machine now running ME?

    Some of the games I have bought need 9.0 !!!
    9.0 what?? IE???? As far as I'm aware, IE 8 is still in BETA release. There is no IE9. Get Internet Explorer 7

    I downloaded the 9.0 that was supported by 98se...
    Just what did you download? Do you have a link to it?

    but...upon trying to install it...I was rudely informed that I did not have internet service ... Is there a way around this?
    I think I know what you mean, and there is a trick to get it (IE6) to install with no internet service. I just have to remember what that trick is.....

    I am told that I need to install .Net 2...or something....
    .Net Framework 2

    Thanks, Dan. I tried IE6setup and it still requested my presence online. There has to be a fix for this....I have figured out all other things(except the ones you helped me with<chuckle>)...There has to be a "back door". Thanks, again....Stevo
