    WinMe to Win98se...2 and 16 colors...etc.

I have an emachine(etower 733i) and when I bought it used it had WinMe installed but the former owner removed some vital components. I loaded win98se and now my computer does not recognize much of mu hardware. I wish to solve the graphics problem and no sound asap. I am attempting to attach my original hardware list from emachines.com. I have really tried every way I can. Can anyone help? Thanks....Stevo

Found this. you just need to join the community to download it, its free.

    Emachines HSP56 MR Driver Summary

At the bottom he states he included video and sound drivers in the zip file.

I've downloaded the file linked in rokytnji's post, and it appears to be only a modem driver (for the voice/sounds etc).

This should be your sound device driver; http://www.d-a-l.com/dan/82801AAAB_AC97.zip.

Extract the files to an empty folder, then install the driver through Device Manager. Just point the installer to the folder with the files.

Same as above for your display adapter (video); http://www.d-a-l.com/dan/Intel810_w98.zip

If by chance these don't work, download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Computer, Summary, Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have. Post that information. (Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.)

For sound, look under Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

    Also look under MOTHERBOARD.
Post what is listed for your Motherboard (make/model) and the Motherboard Chipset description.

Post back with your results and any further questions.

Sorry Dan, I didn't check it. I didn't realize it was sound and video for modem.

Thanks, Guys!!! I DID get the sound working...but the graphics are still at 2&16.(ugh). I loaded the drivers above (810 for 98se) ...and installed them into the system, but still I cannot get the graphics right. I put the drivers in "my documents" and when I went to reinstall the graphics adapter...I directed(browsed) the computer to find the drivers in the "M.D." file but it rejected them as viable software....so I had to accept the "standard pci graphics adapter(vga)" option again. My computer works fine except for the graphics. The graphics adapter logo still has a yellow (!) in the device manager window. Is there anything else I can try?

Sorry, for the graphics drivers, unzip the files, then run the SETUP.EXE file from the package.

Thanx, Dan. I did that...unzipped them to my docs. and loaded them onto the computer. I still have only 2 & 16 colors...and the resolution is.....640x480. What else can it be? I am miffed. As I stated...there is still an "!" over the graphics adapters logo. I firstly removed the adapters from the device manager window, restarted my machine, (bypassed the auto reload of adapters), loaded the chip drivers , restarted and tried to load the adapter(s) but was forced to accept the computers choice of adapters...resulting in being back at the start. Woe is Mel.

Based upon the WORD report from your first post above, your graphics is the Intel 810, which is "on-board" graphics. The graphics/monitor connection is on the motherboard itself, at the rear where PS2 mouse/keyboard connections are.

A graphics card, is just that, an expansion "card" which fits into a motherboard slot (ISA, PCI etc).

Please download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Computer, Summary, Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have. Post that information. (Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.)

    Also look under MOTHERBOARD.
Post what is listed for your Motherboard (make/model) and the Motherboard Chipset description.

It could be that your chipset drivers must be installed (if they are not already, or corrupted) before the graphics drivers will run properly.
