on-board realtek ac97 sound not working
Hi, I'm having major problems with my pc (Doh!). I can't get the on board sound to work, I've tried everything downloading drivers, re-installing, bios settings nothing works. I'm not sure what info you'll need to help me but here's some of the specs:
cpu type: amd sempron, 1600MHz (8x200) 2800+
os: win98
motherboard: msi k8m neo-v (ms7032)
chipset: via vt8380 k8m800, amd hammer
bios: ami
audio: via ac'97 enhanced audio controller(realtek)
Any help would be amazing and if I can get this sorted out it would be truly phenomenal.
Kind regards
Phil

Hi, if you go to device manager, (start>right click "my computer"> hardware> device manager), can you see your card there? if so, is there an exclaimation mark by it??

Hi there. thanks for replying. There was a yellow dot with a explination in it so i reinstalled the driver, windows wanted a disk which i don't have so i had to browse to find all the files(systems32, etc). Managed to do that fine, the yellow dot along with it's explination mark has gone (HA). but audio's still not working(arghhhhhhh). I know it's not a hardware problem, I've had the case open and made sure the wires for the front panel are correctly jumpered to the motherboard. I even installed geexbox(linux) and the sound works with that os but not with win98. I know I should get a more updated os but i can't afford one at the minute and this is really bugging me. Any sugestions?
Kind regards
Oakems

Try this driver package. It's good for Win 98 through XP (hence it's size - 30.5 MB).
Download the zip file and extract all files into an empty directory. Enter that directory and run the setup.exe file.
Post back with your results and any further questions.
