    Phantom clicks in Windows 98!

I have a problem that popped up yesterday on my 98SE box where a single click is often interpreted as a double click or no click at all makes a click.

For example, when I am going through my mail, I will click to select a message, and it will make two clicks and select it and open it in a new window. When I click the X to close it, it closes it and makes a phantom click again and closes the whole Thunderbird browser behind it.

When I click on a message and then hit the red X to delete it, it deletes that message and the next one.

When I am clicking through folders and files, it will click into a folder and click right into another one by mistake, so it seems to be all over, not just in Thunderbird.

I had this problem two years ago, it seemed only in Thunderbird, and I never knew what caused it and it went away.

I use 98SE and Firefox/Thunderbird/Sea Monkey. I am using a Belkin PS/2 trackball and have just reinstalled the driver but it didn't help.

Does anyone know how to stop this? Thanks.

I don't run win 98 so I will be guessing a little here. Go into settings, then control panel, and open up mouse icon. I think you can set delay times between clicks in there.
