Smile How to recover username & password to long on to Windows 2000 Pro

Two women, who have opened a summer school for pre-school kids, had a older computer donated for their use.

They are unable to boot up and log on successfully in absence of the the user name and password information that is requested by a window that appears early in the boot up process.

The operating system on this computer is Windows 2000 Pro.

I would be grateful for any help you might provide me in step-by-step fashion to solve this problem. I have limited computer technical knowledge, but can follow sequences instructions.

I thank for any help you might provide me.....

    cordially
    geoheid

Is it a BIOS password or the actual Windows 2000 password?

If it is the BIOS password what is the make and model of the computer?

BIOS passwords can usually be cleared via a motherboard jumper.

If it is the actual Windows 2000 password then we cannot help you here as regards site policy.

Google would be your best bet in the latter case.

Another option is a different operating system. Ubuntu is free: Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu

If it is a Windows password and you really want to have the two ladies run Win2000, then google would be the best answer. But my best bet would be a) Install Windows XP on that computer and you have no headache or b) install Ubuntu (along with VNC), but remember that you will be bugged every day because "this or that looks/works just so much different than in Windows!".

    Cheers and good luck!

rokytnji - D-A-L has a policy not to assist in the area of Windows password issues.

The mention of Google was for the user to find such things as you posted.

We have no idea of the legitimacy of any such request.

As one should not forget such a password one should verify that a used computer is not password protected.

Anyway as such is our policy I have edited your post.
