cd/rw device problem
hello dal forum:
I am experiencing a problem with the cd/rw drive. specifically I have a hp notebook running Win '98 OS. I would like to back up all my files to a cd. Don't have RecordNow but am using the Win Backup Wizard. I keep getting the error message: D:/ not accessible The device is not ready.
I've tried the hp online chat and they are busy updating their website. How timely for me.
I've deleted the device and restart to reload device & driver. I have tried using a reserved drive letter assignments.
It appears to be working..........playing music etc. But no can back up...hmmmmm
Unfortunately I know just enough about computers to get myself in trouble. What other solutions do I have? Any thoughts on this?

Hello, and Welcome to D-A-L.
The Win Backup Wizard is meant for use with floppy disks or serial data transfer cables. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/arc....mspx?mfr=true
If your CDROM drive is indeed a "burner", you'll need to aquire a burning program. There are several free programs available for download.

Microsoft Backup by Seagate Software is the Back up program......I just thought it was call WinBackup. When you open it up it shows Icons to backup to floppy & cd. I know I'm a bit slow to comprehend these things but why can't you just copy your picture & document files onto a cd. Before I upgraded my PC's cd/rw drive to a Burner I could copy files to a cd..........I'm not getting this.

"Microsoft Backup by Seagate Software is the Back up program..."
OK. When I did a Google search for Win Backup Wizard all the hits (first page anyway) were for Microsoft or other third party links.

Still can't find anything on this. A search at the Seagate website returns a blank;

Is this it?;

Here's the support page for the above;

Does Device Manager show any yellow exclamation marks for your CD-RW?
Have you tried removing it (CD-RW) and rebooting so the O/S reallocates resources for it?

When you open that back up program, what does it say in a title bar? When you click Help>About, does it say who made it?

yeah it is Seagate Software. I have removed the device and rebooted
