    partially working network adapter

    hello, I have a netgear wg511t NIC that i have gotten to eventually work in 98 SE, with a bit of work. In order to access my network i must physically eject the card, then re-insert it. if i fail to do this, and attempt to access it VIA the software the it came with the drivers, i get an error telling me that the card has not been inserted. also, in the device manager, under Network adapters, there is an exclamation mark next to my netgear card, which goes away once eject and re-insert the card.

    when i start 98, i get an error stating the following:

    Your network adapter NETGEAR 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card WG511T (0003) is not working properly. You may need to set it up again. For more information, see the Network Troubleshooter in Windows Help.
    Just before i get this, i hear a "beep", which sounds similar to the one you hear once you insert the card. I have looked at the troubleshooter as suggested on the off chance that it might provide something useful, but no help there. I also have uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for the card multiple times, with the same outcome.

    I doubt this is related, but i am also experiencing difficulties with an "ndis2" driver (which i believe to be my fault after trying a different driver in its place in an attempt to fix my current NIC problem). i have tried removing, and re-installing the driver, but there is an exclamation mark continually by its representation in the device manager.

    thank you

    WG511T NIC http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adap...rs/WG511T.aspx

    Are you running 98FE or 98SE? (Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.) On the General screen, under System, it will list Second Edition if you have it.

    Also the date/time stamp on the majority of system files will be;

    98FE = 11/24/1998 8:02 AM

    98SE = 4/23/1999 10:22 PM

    (c:\command.com and c:\io.sys being two of these files.... At the C:\> prompt type in dir/a/o/p and check the date and time stamps on these two files. This can be performed from a MSDOS Prompt window.)

    Post back with the above information.

    This should be resolved first.

    What are the ndis2 drivers you tried to install? (Download link?)

    Have you tried to reinstall the Win98 default drivers?

    This; "also, in the device manager, under Network adapters, there is an exclamation mark next to my netgear card, which goes away once eject and re-insert the card." may be resolved with the above.

    Have a look at this MSKB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191518/en-us#top and check things that apply to your problem.

    Have you followed all of the prescribed steps from ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WG511T_IG_15Jan07.pdf ?
