freezes and explorer error
i am trying to fix a friends pc which is running windows me. the system constantly freezes which means it has to be re-started. i have checked it for any viruses which i cannot find. also, when i try to open internet explorer, i get the message
" explorer has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL. explorer will now close.if you continue to experience problems, restrat your computer."
can use the web using netscape, but cannot scan for updates on windows update site. i guess this is because i am using netscape?

If this isn't already fixed, do the following:
1. Go to the Start Menu
2. Go to the Run prompt
3. Type sfc
4. When System File Checker opens, specify that you want to extract a file - type mshtml.dll and put in the Windows ME CD-ROM so that it can extract a clean copy.
5. Reboot.
Problem fixed?
Alternatively, if you are still running Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.5, upgrade to IE6 SP1 (you can download this from http://www.microsoft.com/ie).
In replacing the Internet Explorer that is installed, this should resolve the problem.
P.S. Sorry for the delayed response - I'm not sure whether we have anyone regularly monitoring the Windows ME board on D-A-L.com yet but, from now on, I will keep an eye on it. Please let us know whether the problem is already resolved or whether one of these suggestions does or doesn't help! Thanks.
