Which OS Would Be Best For This Laptop (now running WIN 2000)
Specs:
IBM Thinkpad 390X
Win 2000 Pro
Pentium III, 450 MHz
Useable Memory: 326912 KB
Hard Drive Space: a few GB (like 4, i think)
i found this laptop in my friend's basement, he said it was broken (he just didn't know the password). It was running win 2000. So i boot n' nuked it, installed win 95, and upgraded to Win 2000 pro.
Any sugestions would be appreciated!
Should I run WIN 98 SE or Win 2003 eXP if any of those OS?
thanks,
LiEB0

With the specs you provided, you could run Windows 2000 Professional or XP as the O/S. (Windows 98 came stock with the unit.)

Note the "At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk" line. If your hard disk is only 4 GB, then you'll have to keep it "slim" and not bogged down on programs. 4 GB can get used fairly quickly with todays programs and their size. Virtual memory will chew up a chunk of that space as well.
"more ram and p4"
RJ,
A Pent.4 probably won't install on that machine. It also has a RAM capacity of 256 MB MAX. (Posted "Useable Memory: 326912 KB"???)
Ref.: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...id=MIGR-4CYMXN (This states that a 12 GB hard disk comes in the unit.)
I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help with a problem, but please do a bit of research before you reply. You can waste a persons time and potentially cause harm to the machine, or cause unwarranted costs to an individual which decides to pursue your suggestions.
