it doesnt even display any disk drives in My Computer.

Do you have a Windows ME disk or Recovery disks from the computer manufacturer?

nah, its actually a computer i got from my friend and it was his old one, but its an HP pavillion 7850. I dont have any of the software that might have come with it...
