cant partition 20 gig hard disk in full

    Hi

I'm trying to partition and format my 20gig hard drive to install win 98 SE back onto my pc, but I'm only getting 15.5mb. What can I do to get the full space partitioned and formatted?

    Hi

Do you only see 15.5MB total.. is that what you're saying?

Or can you only resize 15.5MB of it?

What are you using to resize it?

What do you want it partitioned to?

What current OSes do you have installed on the HDD?

Can you also provide a little on the system specs please.. like processor (Intel/AMD), speed, RAM size and any other additions like graphics card you bought for it.

Ok, the pc is a P2 computer (Intel processor),64mb Ram and has on-board VGA. The hard drive previously had 2partitions, 12gig and 8 gig each and running Win xp. For some reason it suddenly it wouldn't boot, so I decided to repartition and reformat and install WIN 98 SE instead. There is no OS on the HDD yet. I used a WIN 98 startup disk to create the partition. I only seem to be able to access the 15 mb, which isn't enough for me to install Win 98. I would like to partition the whole 20 gig.

by the way The CD was not accebile so I couldn't use it to load the OS. It wasn't appearing in the BIOS bootlist. After rebooting with the startup disk I was able to use it. Just thot I shud mention this.
    Thanks

    OK

64MB RAM doesn't meet the minimum requirement for XP.

    Use this free version: UBCD

You will be bale to bootup with that CD into a menu without having any OS installed. Wipe your HDD with that using KillDisk; it will totally clear everything on there i.e. zero format. Then partition it with any of the Partitioning software under that heading, even FDSIK is there.

See how that goes. That should work.

EDIT: now that you mention CD, open the side case, check the connections to the CD-drive from the motherboard and PSU are firm and secure then retry.
