    Edit File name

Over the past two months I've been using a used computer that belonged to a business.

Every file that I have transferred and new ones that I created show the initials of the business name of this firm, as follows:

    C:\Documents and Settings\xyz\My Documents\myphoto.JPG

The -- xyz -- are not the true letters

What do I need to do to get rid of these three letters.

    Thanks.

"xyz" is the username... That won't affect the filenames. ...I don't see what your problem is. Could you explain a bit more please?

He was asking about the computer name as in the link I posted.

He wants to change it as it currently is the name of the old company.

Or that is what I thought.

    Hi Fety and jephree

You are right it is the Username to login but its also the name of the Firm

These initials are showing up all over the place and annoying plus making the file names longer.

If I go to Start and type -- xyz -- I get a long list of files. I dont dare delete the lot as some are dated after the date I started using this comp.

I can live with it but I think I'll have a go at jephree's advice.

    Thanks. Bill

The filepath will always include the XYZ part as this is the Windows profile name that you are using, i.e. the username. So you could change it to use a different profile but XYZ will just be replaced by something else - it will never actually disappear.
