master boot record problem
I tried to install a program called rollback rx this afternoon and during the process it asked me if it could change my master boot record. I clicked continue, now my system won't boot up. I guess I need to repair my master boot record what ever that is. Help Please....

Hello, and Welcome to D-A-L.
Boot with a Win98SE EBD* (Emergency Boot Disk). Choose without CDROM support. When you get to the A:\> prompt, type in fdisk/mbr. This should repair the Master Boot Record. Remove the floppy and reboot.
Post back with your results or any further questions.
*The above bootdisk image file is a self extracting file and has to be executed (run) from a running Windows(9x) machine in order to create the actual startup diskette on one of your floppy disks. (This image file produces the same bootdisk which 98SE creates.) This downloaded image file will format the floppy disk to ensure its integrity, write the files to the disk, then verify the file write, so it'll take a minute or three to create the bootdisk.
Ensure the floppy drive is set as the first boot device in the bios.
NOTE: When you boot a machine with this boot floppy, it creates a RAMDRIVE in system memory to contain DOS system tools/drivers. Thus it will move your "normal" CDROM device/drive letter "up" one level. (If your CDROM is normally E: it will be F: when booting with this bootdisk.)

Upon using my start up floppy I can see a message that say I do not have a valid fat or fat32 partition.
Proceeded with your instructions.
fdisk/mbr then enter.

sorry I had a ide cable come loose. I have done so much to this thing in the last 2 days I don't knowif i am coming or going. Got the wire back on and now recognizes my hd when starting to boot.
Used you command and nothing happens the curser just drops to the next line and gives me this prompt.

what would happen if I reinstalled my windows?
would that fix the problem and keep all my info on my harddrive?

"... nothing happens the curser just drops to the next line and gives me this prompt. a:\>"
This is normal behaviour for that function.
So the hard disk is now "seen" but it doesn't boot into windows? Are you ending up at a C:\> prompt? If so, try typing in win at the command prompt. Post back the results.

You can't start windows by booting with an EBD.
Remove the floppy and try to boot normally. What happens?

Ok this is the command when booting normally:
Type the name of the Command Interpreter
