Are you running Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) ? If you aren't sure, right-click on My Computer and go to Properties. It will tell you in there if it's Windows 98 (version 4.1.1998 or something like that) or Windows 98 Second Edition (something like version 4.1.2222).

I suspect that the DataTraveler driver only supports Windows 98 Second Edition.

The "Msgsvr32 is not responding" refers to the Windows system component that handles all warning and error messages that are to be displayed to the user (Message Server 32). This has crashed (stopped responding) for some reason so that you do not see the message that you are supposed to see.

The second message saying that MMTask has stopped responding is referring to the Windows Task Scheduler / System Tray area in Windows. It may be that you plugged in the USB memory stick and then, because Windows had to display the 'Remove hardware' icon in the system tray area, it crashed. This is a bit of a guess, to be honest, but this would then have really upset Windows 98SE, possibly resulting in other system functions such as Message Server 32 crashing as well.

Do you have any other USB devices that you can use successfully on this PC?

yes i used to have a usb that work.. i got rid of it a long time ago..

i bdw.. my data traveler used to work in my pc.. but now it doesnt..

and i can access it on other computers(win98) too.. with the driver ofcourse..

could it be a hardware issue?

Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager, especially for USB?

Have you run (recently, since this problem) the SFC utility to check system files?
